Over Rs.1.5 b allocated for Dambulla – Habarana road widening

The 22.5 kilometre stretch from Dambulla to Habarana along the
Ambepussa- Kurunegala -Trincomalee road (A6) is being widened with an
asphalt carpet surface being laid at a cost of Rs.1.53 billion.
The development work is being implemented with the financial support
of the Commercial Bank.
Ninety percent of the construction work of the section from Dambulla
to Habarana has already been completed while the stretch leading to the
‘Mirisgoniya’ bridge remains to be widened,” Ports and Highways Deputy
Minister Nirmala Kothalawala told the Daily News.
“The width of the “Mirisgoniya” bridge will be increased from six to
nine metres at a cost of Rs.70 million,” he added.
Meanwhile, “Mirisgoniya bridge on the Ambepussa -
Kurunegala-Trincomalee road (A6) will be closed at night from 11pm to 2
am from October 15 to October 26 for construction work.
The Ports and Highways Ministry requests the public to use
alternative roads due to construction work of the ‘Mirisgoniya’ bridge.
