Ganja carrying man arrested

Vauniya Police arrested a person with four kilograms and 600 grams of ganja at Kovilkulam. Police on a tip off examined a person and found four kilograms of ganja concealed on his person. He is from Ekala area and Police have produced him in Vavuniya courts.

Teacher's house burgled

Two gold chains and a television set have been burgled in broad daylight from a house of a teacher in Nelliyaddy town area. The teacher had gone to a temple. The people are intrigued by the burglary at a busy place. No arrests have been made. Nelliyaddy Police are investigating.

Police seize tree logs, sawn timber

Eight persons have been arrested at Kanakarayankulam while they were removing 12 felled teak tree logs in a tractor. At Mankulam two persons had been arrested while transporting "Palu" tree logs and sawn timber in a tractor.

At Vavuniya Pavatkulam, a person had been arrested while transporting 22 doors and 27 windows in a lorry. All the suspects had been taken to Vavuniya to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate.

Fingerlings to destroy dengue larvae

Fingerlings are being introduced to ponds and wells in the Jaffna Municipality area to destroy mosquitoe larvae and eradicate the proliferation of dengue mosquitoes. Jaffna Municipality Health Officers visited the Jaffna Public Library, Dr Subramaniam Park, Gurunagar Housing scheme and public wells and introduced fingerlings to destroy dengue mosquitoe eggs.

Pipe-borne water for Point Pedro

A big pipe-borne water supply scheme in Point Pedro at a cost of Rs 675 million is underway and a large tank has been built as a water sourse. This project will serve the people of 20 Grama Niladhari divisions with a population of 22,000.

The scheme is funded by the Asian Development Bank, the International Red Cross Society and the Economic Development Ministry. Most of the wells in Point Pedro are saline.

Six, including two students, arrested over burglaries

Six persons including two students have been arrested in connection with burglaries at Navalar road and Chetty street in Jaffna. They are from Ariyalai, Gurunagar and Nallur areas.

They had broke opened a telephone shop at Navalar road and burgled 3 million worth watches and electrical goods. Major part of the burgled goods have been recovered by Jaffna Police.

They will be produced before the Jaffna magistrate.

Newspapers as wrappers banned

Using old newspapers as wrappers in eating houses and restaurants in Jaffna has been banned from November 1. White papers should be used as wrappers in eating houses and restaurants, Chief Inspector of Health Jaffna Municipality K A Jeevanathan said.

Teen arrested over molesting girl

A 19-year-old boy has been arrested for molesting and committing sexual abuse on a 15-year-old girl in the Illavalai Police area. He was produced before the Mallakam magistrate and remanded.
