Netherlands-funded hospital for Hambantota

A hospital complex funded by the Netherlands government and an
International School will soon come up in Hambantota, Hambantota
District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said.
He was addressing the inaugural meeting of Ruhunu Magampura Janamadya
Padanama at Beliatta. He said the bus stand at Hambantota will be rented
out and a new fully fledged bus stand will be set up at Siribopura.
Rajapaksa said the setting up of a monorail will be delayed since it
requires US dollars 40m for construction, instead railway line will be
extended upto Kataragama.
The MP said that journalists will be enlightened on the development
activities at a monthly meeting. He said Hambantota is being developed
as the country's second commercial city opening air and sea destinations
to the world.
The MP said the Greater Hambantota Town Development Plan has been
prepared to develop the city area and adjacent PS area for basic
commercial needs related to the Maththala Air Port and Siribopura
residential area. An administrative building was setup at a cost of Rs
3015 million to bring scattered public offices in several locations
under one roof.
An international conference hall with a seating capacity of 1,500
seats is coming up at Siribopura, Hambantota at a cost of Rs 1,700
million. The first ever safari park will soon be opened to the public at
Suriyawewa. The dry zone botanical gardens is another attraction in the
district.
The city of Siribopura will be developed as a new auxiliary city too.
Rajapaksa said that the coastal area of Hambantota has been given a
facelift with an attractive tourist resort on 22 hectares.
