Mihindupura Scheme to commence shortly
Work on the Mihindupura Janasevana Housing Scheme in Kirulapone is to
commence shortly under the Janasevana National Housing and Settlement
Development Operation.
The Cabinet proposal was presented by Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa for
which approval was received.
Once completed, the scheme will have two 24 storeyed buildings.
The estimated cost of the construction is Rs 6,699 million.

Sixteen injured
Athapattu Bandara
A private bus traveling from Kandy to Ampara fell into a cliff at the
Galekele Bend on the Mahiyangana- Kandy road injuring at least 16
passengers yesterday, the police said. The injured, including the driver
and conductor were admitted the Kandy hospital.
Two passengers who were critically injured were transferred to the
Peradeniya Teachinh hospital.
Felicitation ceremony
The National Heritage Ministry will felicitate those who have
silently laboured to protect National Treasures at a ceremony to be held
at Jana Kala Centre Colombo at 6 pm today.External Affairs Minister
Prof. G.L.Peiris will be the Chief Guest. The event is organised on the
directives of National Heritage Ministry Secretary Kanthi Wijetunga.
Landslide warning

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) warns public about
a probable threat of landslides in hilly areas,due to the heavy rains.
ccording to the Disaster Management Centre reports, the NBRO will
extend its landslide alert to Gangawatakorale, Udunuwara, Yatinuwara,
Harispattuwa and Akurana in the Kandy districts if the rains continue.
Meanwhile, the water level at Castlereigh Reservoir has increased
significantly and people in the low lying areas of Norwood have been
advised move to secure locations due to rising the water level. |
