Sri Lanka, Japan for enhanced economic cooperation

External Affairs Minister Prof. G L Peiris met with Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Naoki Kazama on the sidelines of the Asia Co-operation Dialogue Summit in Kuwait City.

The focus of the discussion was enhanced co-operation between Sri Lanka and Japan in the fields of trade, investment and tourism in the climate of peace and stability prevailing in Sri Lanka.

The areas identified for collaboration included construction, investment in tourism infrastructure, fisheries and human resource development, with particular reference to training programmes which will benefit the small and medium sector. Prof. Peiris expressed appreciation of JAICA's contribution to Sri Lanka's economic development and discussed modalities for strengthening JAICA programmes in the near future with the Japanese Minister.
