COPE interim report before House shortly

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will present an interim
report to Parliament shortly on its findings in relation to the accounts
of public enterprises coming under its scrutiny, Human Resources Senior
Minister and COPE chairman D E W Gunasekara said yesterday.
He said the interim report consists of findings and recommendations
affecting 30 public enterprises. He said the approval of the Committee
on the interim report would be sought tomorrow. The minister noted
adjustments would be made if there are any, and the interim report would
be presented to Parliament soon thereafter.
The chairman also said the final COPE report for 2012 would be
presented to Parliament in early December, preferably before the
committee stage debate of Budget 2013. He said the probe into the
accounts of 129 public enterprises out of the total 235 bodies have been
completed so far. He said recommendations in relation to 40 among these
have also been finalized.
Minister Gunasekera also noted that the progress made by each
institution on the recommendations given in the previous COPE report is
also included in this year’s report. |
