COPE interim report before House shortly

* Findings complete on 30 public bodies

* Final report in early December

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will present an interim report to Parliament shortly on its findings in relation to the accounts of public enterprises coming under its scrutiny, Human Resources Senior Minister and COPE chairman D E W Gunasekara said yesterday.

He said the interim report consists of findings and recommendations affecting 30 public enterprises. He said the approval of the Committee on the interim report would be sought tomorrow. The minister noted adjustments would be made if there are any, and the interim report would be presented to Parliament soon thereafter.

The chairman also said the final COPE report for 2012 would be presented to Parliament in early December, preferably before the committee stage debate of Budget 2013. He said the probe into the accounts of 129 public enterprises out of the total 235 bodies have been completed so far. He said recommendations in relation to 40 among these have also been finalized.

Minister Gunasekera also noted that the progress made by each institution on the recommendations given in the previous COPE report is also included in this year’s report.
