Female heroin dealer nabbed

The Mount Lavinia Crime Investigation Unit on Tuesday took into custody a woman with 8 grammes of heroin in her possession at her house in Angulana.

Police found the women’s whereabouts from a suspect who had been caught earlier on the same day with 400 mg of heroin. On interrogation,the suspect revealed that the woman in Angulana, was his dealer. They were produced at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court yesterday.


Arrested with fake note

The Panadura North police yesterday arrested a suspect who had tendered a fake Rs 1000 note after having a cup of tea at a hotel in Henamulla. The suspect , a resident of Waskaduwa is being questioned under detention.


Man with 4,685 kilos of cannabis taken in

Acting on information received by the STF intelligence unit in Jaffna, a team of STF officers led by IP Dombawela arrested a suspect with 4.685 kilos of cannabis in his possession.

The arrest was made near the Shiva Kovil on Uma Maheshwaran road in Vavuniya on Sunday. The suspect, a resident of Ekala was handed over to Vavuniya Police.

Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested with 960 grammes of cannabis in his possession in Pulmudei town on Tuesday by the Pulmudei Police.

He was produced in Kuchchaweli Magistrate Court’s yesterday.


Police probe man's death

Panadura Police found the body of a 52 - year - old man believed to have been murdered a few days ago, lying in the living room of his house at Godella Watta, Panadura. Police entered the house after breaking open the door around 9pm after a complaint by a friend of the deceased.

The Police detected blood stains at the scene. The friend said R A Sarachchandra Ranawaka did not answer his telephone for two days. Ranawaka is said to have led a solitary life in the house. Investigations are continuing.


Man hit by train

Avissawella Police are investigating the death of a man hit by an Avissawella bound train at Jayabodiya, Ukwatte on Tuesday night. The 60 -year - old man is about five feet in height.


 Arrested with heroin

Mount Lavinia Police arrested a suspect with 5.120 grammes of heroin in his possession. The suspect, a 45 - year - old resident of Badowita, was arrested at Badowita bridge on Wednesday night.

He was produced before the Mount Lavinia magistrate yesterday. Another suspect arrested by Kadawatha Police with 18.530 grammes of heroin was remanded until October 22 by the Mahara magistrate.


Woman bailed

A woman, arrested in connection with stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 480,000 from a house in Batticaloa was released on Rs 500,000 sureties by the Batticaloa magistrate.

The next hearing is on October 30.


Woman remanded

A woman arrested by Middeniya Police for allegedly cheating Rs 5 million from 27 people was remanded until October 30 by the Walasmulla magistrate.
