President tells Kuwaiti expats :
‘Unite to show the real image of Sri Lanka’
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday invited all Sri Lankan
expatriates to be united to show the real image of Sri Lanka and defeat
all efforts of pro-terrorist elements who propagate false and fabricated
news against the motherland.
The President met Sri Lankans living in Kuwait following the Asia
Cooperation Dilologue (ACD) Summit yesterday.
The President lauded the great contribution of Sri Lankan migrant
worker communities spread all over the world, pointing out that the
money sent by foreign employees is being used for the country’s
development. But earlier, it was directed to free the country from
terrorism, he said.
He urged the expatriates to spread the message around the world that
Sri Lanka is conducive for foreign investments as the country’s
infrastructure facilities have expanded tremendously in the post war
development efforts.
Subsequently, the President met frontline officials of the Kuwait
Investment Authority and Kuwait Fund. The discussions were mainly
directed at development of irrigation and canal projects in Sri Lanka
and to explore possibilities of augmenting the tourist hotel industry in
the country.
