Sony launches BRAVIA LED TVs in SL

Sri Lanka is an important and one of the fasted growing markets for Sony BRAVIA Televisions said Sony South East Asia Chief Representative in (Sri Lanka) M. Razali Ya’acub. Speaking to ‘Daily News Business’ at the Sony BRAVIA EX430 and Ex330, new range of Direct Lit LED TVs launch, he said that they have a good market especially for their 26 inch TV, which has high sales, even in rural areas.

He said that the BRAVIA Televisions have a unique characteristics which includes low power consumption, true to life colours and most importantly 22 years usage.

He said that one of the main reasons for the Sri Lankan market to grow was the government policy which removed the unwanted duty on imports. Commenting on the Siedles agency, were marketing Sony products for over 50 years and would be one of the oldest agents in the world.

Siedles Director Rajan Udeshi, said that Sony brand had been rated number one in a survey and this is a major plus point to market their products. Asked how the competition was he said that it was tough as there is lot of under pricing and also the gray market. “However our superior brand name and marketing strategies have given us an edge.”

The Sony BRAVIA EX430 and Ex330, its new range of Direct Lit LED TVs (KDL-40EXx430 and KDL-32EX330) as well as Dynamic Edged LED (KDL-24EX430) launch brings a top notch visual experience to viewers in a slim, elegant and affordable package to Sri Lanka.

Featuring the BRAVIA Engine 3 image processing engine, the BRAVIA Ex430 and EX330 delivers an increased depth and clarity in order to provide users with a truly immersive cinematic experience. Viewers will be left in awe by the breathtaking colours that the BRAVIA Engine 3 technology delivers, as it makes millions of improvements to each frame before viewers even see it.

Galway Miridiya Hotel is now undergoing major refurbishment and moving towards becoming the first four star class hotel in Anuradhapura.

Managing Director of Gunatilake Construction the owner company of the hotel, Thiran Gunatilake said that they have already completed the new wing with 15 deluxe rooms investing over Rs. 50 million. Five more super luxury rooms would be completed by the end of this year increasing the total rooms to 40.

“We have already completed a new pool and a deck and up graded the property with an investment of Rs. 100 million last year.“We will be then upgrading the standard rooms, restaurant and other facilities and hope to reinvest further. The hotel would be ready by next October.” With the introduction of the four star category next year the management is not looking at a significant increase to their prices but plans to provide a better service for an economical rate.

He said that the parent company Gunatilake Construction, had been in business for more than 20 years and the this experience was a tower of strength for the on going refurbishment program without disturbing the hotel activities.He said that the hotel has been having a steady local and foreign clientele and the location of the hotel between Jaffna and the Madhu Church also have given them a good walk in the F&B market.

“We are also looking at participating in many l international travel shows next year in a bid to increase foreign clientele,” he added.

Commenting on their future plans, Gunatilake said they are looking at building a 25 room boutique hotel in Kataragama with an investment of Rs. 40 million. “This would come up on our own land near Sella Kataragama and we hope to start construction next year.”



Ten years on, Bali remembers bomb dead

Hundreds of survivors and relatives of the dead on Friday paid tearful tributes to the 202 people killed in the Bali bombings 10 years ago, when Islamist extremists unleashed terror on partying tourists.

On October 12, 2002, suicide bombers attacked two packed nightspots on the holiday island, pitching Indonesia into a battle with Islamic militancy and dealing a morale-sapping blow to Australia, which lost 88 people. Mourners gathered in Bali shaded themselves under Australian flags as they listened solemnly to a mournful roll call of the dead, some crying or leaning on loved ones' shoulders as they observed a minute's silence. Families of the Australian victims, many of whom were youthful holidaymakers and members of touring sports teams, made the journey to Bali seeking closure to a painful decade.


Galway Miridiya, A'pura to introduce entertainment zone

For the first time an entertainment zone for both adults and children would be introduced by Galway Miridiya Hotel to Anuradhapura. Thiran Gunatilake, Managing Director of Galway, Anuradhapura said that this was something that was missing in the city. “In addition we are also looking at having a mini stopping centre, Pizza and icecream kiosks and daily special theme nights at the venue,” he said.

He said, the hotel would be investing around Rs 5 million for this project which add much needed ‘entertainment’ to Anuradhapura. Gunatilake plans to utilize land adjoining the Nuwara Wewa for this novel project. “Basically I am planning to have a mini Dutch Hospital entertainment area to Anuradhapura respecting cultural values of the area.”
