Attack on JSC Sec could be to embarrass the govt - Yapa

Environment Minister and Vice President of the SLFP Anura Priyadharshana Yapa while condemning the attack on JSC Secretary Manjula Tilakaratne expressed suspicion whether the incident was a deliberate attempt to embarrass the government.

Issuing a release, Minister Yapa said "It is reported that the JSC Secretary has been assaulted and as a government we condemn the attack while expressing our sympathies to the victim".

"The President has ordered the IGP to conduct an investigation into the attack. We being a democratic and law abiding government condemn such low tactics.

"However, we have doubts if this attack was carried out to embarrass the government and only a police investigation will enable us to dispel such doubts".

"Police have been given powers to carry out a correct course and we believe the true position will be revealed before long".
