Polonnaruwa excavations commence

The National Heritage Ministry is planning to conduct excavations in
the Polonnaruwa ancient city to unearth its buried history while
developing the city along with the Deyata Kirula National Programme.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 360 million, ministry sources
said.
The conservation programme will commence immediately under National
Heritage Minister Jagath Balasuriya’s proposal, sources said.
Plans are also underway to commence power projects, road construction
and water supply schemes in the district together with paving all roads
leading to historic and sacred sites .
