Over 6,600 raids on traders
The Department of Measurements, Units and Standards conducted 6,644
raids from January to September and collected Rs.2,198,000 as fines,
according to Department Secretary R. Premasiri.
The raids were carried out on the orders of Coperatives and Internal
Trade Minister Johnston Fernando.
The minister has issued special instructions to the Department’s
officers to check on fraudulent weighing machines, machines that do not
carry the required seal and those that are being doctored to cheat
consumers.
