Outgoing Navy Commander makes farewell call on Defence Secretary
The outgoing Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Somathilake
Dissanayake paid a farewell call on Defence and Urban Development
Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on Monday.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa promoted the Navy Commander to the rank
of Admiral. A highly decorated officer, Admiral Dissanayake is the 17th
naval officer to head the Naval Service. He assumed duties as the
Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy on January 15, 2011.
Admiral Dissanayake has been decorated with Weerodara Vibhushanaya,
Rana Sura Padakkama, Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya, Uttama Seva Padakkama
and eleven commemorative, campaign and service medals. He is also the
recipient of three decorative badges which include the 5-star
Commendation Badge. Admiral Dissanayake and Defence and Urban
Development Ministry Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa had a brief discussion
and also exchanged mementoes to mark the occasion.
