GL to address UNGA

External Affairs Minister Prof. G L Peiris is now in New York to
attend the 67th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) sessions,
External Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunathilaka Amunugama said
yesterday.
Prof. G L Peiris is due to address the UN on behalf of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, he said. Prof. Peiris will lead the Sri Lankan
delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York, he said.
President Rajapaksa has endorsed External Affairs Minister Prof G L
Peiris to represent him at the UN General Assembly's high-level sessions
of the Heads of State.
The theme of the UNGA this year is "Bringing about adjustment or
settlement of international disputes or situations by peaceful means."
President of the 67th United Nations General Assembly, Vuk Jeremic of
Serbia announced that he has endorsed this theme which was proposed by
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.
"This will be the overcharging theme for the General Assembly's work
over the next 12 months, "he said.
