Man arrested for harassing, robbing foreigner

Hikkaduwa Police arrested a person who had allegedly stolen foreign currency to the value of Euro 4,000 and property including a mobile phone from an elderly Finland woman after causing sexual harassment. Police arrested the suspect following a complaint by the victimized foreigner. The 62 year old woman had been living at a house constructed by her on a five acre land at Berathuduwa, Hikkaduwa.

According to the complaint, the incident had taken place on Monday around 7.30 pm when she was resting at home following her return to Sri Lanka after a brief visit to her motherland. Two unidentified persons had forcibly entered her residence and committed the crime, she had told the Police. The woman has been admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for a medical examination. Hikkaduwa Police are investigating.
