Blunt weapon used in killing lawyer

The post-moterm examination of the 68 year lawyer, Wilson Jayawardene was performed by Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Prof. Ravindra Fernando on Friday.

A 21-year-old woman, reported to be the mistress of the lawyer, was arrested by the Athurugiriya Police, who claimed that the young woman had made a confession that she killed Jayawardene using a blunt weapon after an argument with him.

The alleged weapon, a hammer, was taken from the residence for further forensic examination. Jayawardene had been separated from his legal wife some years ago and was living with the woman in Athurugiriya for the last few months. He is a father of two sons, aged 29 and 25 respectively.

Dr. Ravi Samaranayake examined the scene of crime.

After the post-mortem examination, Prof. Fernando gave the cause of death as ‘Cranio-cerebral injuries due to blunt trauma’.
