Four injured in car-train collission

Woman driver ignores alarm at rail crossing:

Four women from the same family were hospitalised after a car they were travelling in, collided with a train plying from Colombo to Chilaw at a railway crossing at Batagama, Giriulla.

Police said one of the injured women was the driver of the car who attempted to cross the railway line despite the alarm at the gate signalling the oncoming train.

The female driver, her daughter, mother and her sister were injured in the incident and admitted to Ragama Hospital.

Her husband who was also in the car escaped unhurt.

Kandana Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a man died after he was knocked down by a train plying from Galle to Maradana on Sunday.

R M M Lalith, 37, of Nikaweratiya died in the accident.

The body was sent to the Colombo National Hospital for a post - mortem. Wellawatte Police are investigating.
