10th Death Anniversary of Vernon Corea
One of Sri Lanka’s talented musicians, Rukshan Perera will be singing
a new composition I’m Ready to Say Goodbye at the Memorial Service to
legendary Sri Lankan broadcaster Vernon Corea marking his 10th Death
Anniversary at St.Paul’s Church, Milagiriya on Saturday (September 29).
Rukshan is a highly reputed singer and song writer who has headlined
concerts all over the world. He will dedicate his new composition I’m
Ready to Say Goodbye to Vernon.
Rukshan met him when he was a very young musician playing in the
Super Golden Chimes led by Sri Lanka’s ‘King of Pop,’ the late Clarence
Wijewardena.
Vernon along with his cousins Sri Sangabo Corea and Vijaya Corea are
known as the ‘Godfathers of Sinhala Pop.’ Vernon was the first to
introduce Sinhala Music on the English Service of Radio Ceylon in the
early 1960s.He joined Radio Ceylon in 1956 as a Relief Announcer and
left the the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) as Director News.
Vernon was a pioneering broadcaster who was also a sought after compere.
Rukshan will be joined by Sri Lankan music stars Mariazelle Goonetilleke
and Nimal Mendis.
The guest speaker is Dr.Vijaya Corea, another leading figure in the
entertainment industry.

Dream Weaver will be show cased at the barefoot gallery no.704, Galle
road, Colombo 3 until September 16.The exhibition is open to public from
10 am to 7 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 5 pm on Sundays.
