Celebrate peacefully - Police

The Police requested the supporters of the victorious political parties at Saturday's Provincial Council elections to celebrate the victory peacefully without causing disturbance or inconvenience to the public.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said yesterday, 800 Police personnel have been deployed on mobile patrols to ensure there was no breach of the peace in the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces. He said organising rallies, processions and vehicle parades in the post - poll period was not permitted, adding that strict action would be taken in such cases against the offenders irrespective of their position or connections.

SSP Rohana said a peaceful atmosphere prevailed at the elections adding that no major incident was reported on the election day and its aftermath.

He said the three concluded PC elections could be termed as one of the most peaceful elections in recent history.
