Police Log

Six digging for artefacts arrested

Nikaweratiya Police arrested six persons while digging a state land in search of artefacts behind Samadarapitiya Aranya Senasana in Nikaweratiya. The implements and a three wheeler were also seized.


Raid on cannabis chena

The STF in Buttala raided a two acre cannabis chena in the Mawara Forest reserve in Hambegamuwa and seized 10,500 well- grown cannabis plants. The STF destroyed the cannabis plants.


Weapons, explosives found

The STF in Mankulam recovered a stock of weapons and explosives hidden in the Iyyaladi Forest Reserve in Nedunkerni following a tip-off on Tuesday. IP D G S Bulathsinhala and a team conducted the search operation.

Police recovered one T56 weapon, five magazines, 90 bullets, 10 kgs of C4 explosives, one claymore mine, seven hand grenades and two electric detonators in Kanagarayankulam.

Meanwhile, Matara Police and Army intelligence officers arrested a suspect with two revolvers.


Man dies of injuries at hospital

A 49 - year - old man found by police lying on a road with head injuries in Minuwangoda succumbed to the injuries at Minuwangoda Hospital on admission. Police identified the deceased as V G Karunasena of Raddolugama.

The post - mortem revealed the man had died following a blow to his head with a blunt weapon.

Police also found a three wheeler on Unnaruwa- Kalahugoda road where he was lying with injuries.


Abducted man rescued

The Colombo Crime Division rescued a person who was abducted and detained at a location in Bloemendhal and arrested two suspects.

Police said the 26 - year - old victim, a resident of Kotagala was abducted on August 29 night at the Fort bus station.


Counterfeit notes seized

A owner of a private computer institute was arrested with counterfeit notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 in Delthota, Galaha on Wednesday.

The computer and accessories used to print the notes were also taken into custody.


Goats rescued

A herd of 20 goats rescued at Dimbula, Pathana by Police while being transported to be slaughtered, were handed over to Uhana Civil Security Department Dairy Farm on the Hatton magistrate’s orders.


Suspect nabbed with heroin

The STF arrested a suspect with 126.420 grammes of heroin in Kotikawatte on Wednesday. IP Sampath and a team from the STF Headquarters made the arrest. Police said the heroin, worth over Rs one million, and the suspect from Mulleriyawa, were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.


Raid on porn den

Bambalapitiya Police Anti - Vice Squad arrested an owner of a private communication centre and seized computers which contained pornography at a location on Galle Road, Bambalapitiya on Wednesday. Investigations revealed the suspect had been illegally earning money operating a mini cinema where pornographic movies were screened and patronised by schoolchildren and youths.


Suspect arrested after 18 years

Officers of the Police Special Bureau of Passara, Elpitiya and Polonnaruwa during a joint investigation, arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a murder, 18 years after the incident.

Police reported the suspect who had been evading Police for 18 years, was apprehended in Giritale on Tuesday.


Brothel raided

The Walana Anti - Vice squad raided a brothel that operated as a travel agency and arrested three women aged 23, 29 and 32 at Werahera, Boralesgamuwa on Tuesday.
