Professional development workshop on English Language Teaching

The Oxford University Press (OPU), conducted a workshop on Effective English Language Teaching for school teachers of Colombo on September 6. J.A. Mason, author of several ELT textbooks, including New! Learning to communicate. Former Head of St. James' School, Kolkata, Modern High School, Dubai and the Doon School, Dehra Dun conducted the workshop in Sri Lanka to inform and show teachers how the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking can be practised and strengthened in an integrated manner.

The sessions facilitated in guiding teachers on the latest ELT pedagogic principles that may be implemented effectively in the context of large, mixed-ability learning environments.

Around 100 teachers attended the session. The interactive and participative learning modules were practical for both teachers and pupils.

The resource person was able to guide the teachers to go beyond the goals of everyday communication into areas such as life skills, literary appreciation and creativity.
