The day when people will enjoy the ownership of land which they have toiled for all their life is not far away, said Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Minister Jagath Pushpakumara.

He was participating at the opening ceremony of the rehabilitation project of old minor irrigation reservoirs in Wellawaya and Buththala areas.

Minister Pushpakumara said the government has decided to offer something in return to the people for all their dedicated work done to protect the Motherland.

"Though the UNP ruled the country for many years, they didn't work closely with the general public. But the present government always works with the peoples interests at heart", he said.

"The government does not play politics when it comes to the people's welfare. The government's main aim is working for the people and looking in to their welfare. Everyone has equal rights and is treated equally when it comes to receiving benefits.
