Full power supply to Killinochchi soon

Killinochchi district will have 100 percent electricity supplies when
the Killinochchi new Grid Substation is commissioned next month. Power
and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka who inspected the newly set
up Grid Station in Killinochchi during a tour of the North yesterday
directed officials to connect power supplies to the grid station so that
community life and industries could be fully-revived in the district
soon, said a press release by the Power and Energy Ministry yesterday.
The release said that project Manager Anuruddha Tillakaratne who
attended the discussions promised to connect electricity supply to the
Grid Station next month. This would meet 100 percent electricity supply
needs of the district and solve the low voltage problem encountered by
consumers too, he said.
Project Manager (Engineering) S A D A Pieris said the Killinochchi
Grid Station could be described as a main Grid Station built by
utilizing local engineering technology and creative talents to the
maximum level. The project costing Rs 3,085 million was funded under a
long term low interest Japanese loan scheme.
Minister Ranawaka said the proposed high voltage electricity
transmission line to Jaffna district would become a reality soon with
the commissioning of the Killinochchi Grid Station.
