Full power supply to Killinochchi soon

Minister Ranawaka

Killinochchi district will have 100 percent electricity supplies when the Killinochchi new Grid Substation is commissioned next month. Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka who inspected the newly set up Grid Station in Killinochchi during a tour of the North yesterday directed officials to connect power supplies to the grid station so that community life and industries could be fully-revived in the district soon, said a press release by the Power and Energy Ministry yesterday.

The release said that project Manager Anuruddha Tillakaratne who attended the discussions promised to connect electricity supply to the Grid Station next month. This would meet 100 percent electricity supply needs of the district and solve the low voltage problem encountered by consumers too, he said.

Project Manager (Engineering) S A D A Pieris said the Killinochchi Grid Station could be described as a main Grid Station built by utilizing local engineering technology and creative talents to the maximum level. The project costing Rs 3,085 million was funded under a long term low interest Japanese loan scheme.

Minister Ranawaka said the proposed high voltage electricity transmission line to Jaffna district would become a reality soon with the commissioning of the Killinochchi Grid Station.
