Mannar incident:
Suspects further remanded
Panadura Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake
specially assigned to hear the Mannar incident on Monday further
remanded the 13 suspects who had been remanded earlier in connection
with the alleged attack on the Mannar magistrate’s court premises
and damaging the court premises.

Another 147 illegal migrants arrested
The Navy yesterday arrested 147 persons
illegally bound for Australia in two multi-day trawlers. This brings
the total number of asylum seekers apprehended by the Navy during
this year to 1,310. The latest detections were made in Beruwela and
Chilaw.

GN in abuse case remanded
An ex- Grama Sevaka Niladhari aged 73 was
remanded until September 3 by the Kaluwanchikudy magistrate for
allegedly abusing a 13 - year- old girl in Batticaloa. The child had
been brought by her parents from Thopur, Trincomalee to be admitted
to a children’s home at Kaluwanchikudy.
