Uyanwatta Grounds closed to the public

The Matara Municipal Council has taken steps to close the Uyanwatta Cricket Grounds. This action was taken as requested by Andy Atkinson pitch consultant for the ICC to preserve the field.

The practice sessions of the women's teams taking part in the T 20 world cup will be held on this ground. Andy Atkinson who inspected the ground on August 17, said that the progress on the new turf wickets were satisfactory.

He instructed the ground staff to attend to the out field and other facilities.

The Nawaloka Group of companies who have under taken to renovate and maintain the Nawaloka pavilion at their expense had commenced the repair.

The renovation is to cost more than Rupees Five million and on completion it is expected to reach international standards.
