From shop to jail

A man who attempted to purchase goods with a counterfeit note in the denomination of Rs 500 was caught by the shop keeper in Badalkumbura and handed over to Buttala Police.

The suspect, a resident of Magastota , Nuwara Eliya was produced before Wellawaya magistrate yesterday.

Police probe soldier's death

Matale Police are investigating the death of a soldier who committed suicide by exploding a hand grenade at Kohobiliwala, Matale on Tuesday.

Y M D Pradeep Kumara, 27, of Kalakaradewa, Kekirawa was attached to Mundiruppu Army Camp, Vavuniya.

Teen drowns

A 19 - year - old drowned while bathing in Thelgamuwa Oya in Ilukkumbura, Laggala on Tuesday evening.

Police identified the victim as R Mohommad Rahuman of Meewella, Akurana.

Laggala Police are investigating.

Two arrested with heroin

The STF arrested two persons with 50.640 grammes of heroin in their possession in Homagama on Tuesday.

The Police found the drugs in the possession of the pillion rider.

They were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.

Cannabis seized

Hambantota STF arrested five suspects with 155.200 kgs of cannabis worth nearly Rs 7 million during a raid in the Yala Forest Reserve in Lunugamwehera on Tuesday. The suspects were produced before the Tissamaharama magistrate yesterday.

Looter nabbed with grenade

Yakkalamulla Police arrested a suspect who allegedly robbed more than Rs one million in Udumagala.

The suspect had robbed the money two weeks ago.

The Police also seized a hand grenade in his possession.

He was produced before the Baddegama magistrate yesterday.

Woman's body found

Madampe Police found the body of an unidentified woman near a cemetery in Madampe on Tuesday.

The woman is around 35 years and was attired in a black skirt and a pink blouse and 5'3" in height, police said.

They also found a pink handbag near the body.

Madampe Police are investigating.
