Minister rejects ex-CJ's statement

Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando on Monday denied purported allegations made against him by former Chief Justice Sarath N Silva at Galewela recently that he gave false evidence against former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

Addressing a meeting held at Nikaweratiya on Monday, Minister Fernando said what he had stated in evidence were the exact statements made by Sarath Fonseka.

Minister Fernando said the former Chief Justice had made an idiotic statement by misinterpreting a photograph published in newspapers regarding a motor cycle distribution for PMB officials presided over by him.

Minister Fernando said it was highly unbecoming of a person who held the high post of Chief Justice to make such idiotic and false statements and if the former Chief Justice did not stop such accusations and insinuations against him, he would go public with the misdeeds committed by him during his tenure as the Chief Justice.
