Police disperse protesters at Badulla

Police dispersed a group of protesters opposite the Badulla hospital yesterday, by using tear gas as the protesters began attacking the Police. A Police spokesman for the Badulla police station confirmed that Police used tear gas as the protesters were trying to create a tense situation by attacking the Police.

“Badulla Police HQI was also injured when he tried to control the situation”, he said.

The protest was carried out due to a misconception that Police played an inactive role over a fatal accident occurred in the previous day. The protesters said the Police failed to take legal action against the driver of the accident.

“But the driver had already been arrested and Police and we would take due legal action against whosoever is connected with the accident, “he said.

The protesters engaged in the protest by blocking the main road, preventing vehicles to passing the hospital. When Police explained that the suspect would be arrested, they came under attack. The situation is under control.

Badulla police are conducting investigations.
