Violence at village under control

Security at Parakodichenai village in Unnichchei at Vavunathivu has been tightened by the Valachchenai Police with the support of Special Task Force (STF) following a dispute between two groups.

According to Police, an unidentified group armed with swords, axes and clubs, had set fire to a religious centre , four temporary houses and a grocery at the village Saturday.The buildings were completely gutted.

However, Police and villagers tried their best to douse the fire before it spread to other buildings.

Valachchenai Police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

It is reported that, a 52 year old woman of the same village had been hacked with axes by an unidentified group the previous day.

The victim was admitted to Batticaloa base hospital following critical injuries.
