District Judge issues injunction on Director, Muslim Religious

Colombo District Court Judge Dhammika Ganepola on August 9 ordered
Director of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Department to act with
the consent and advice of co-chairmen with regard to matters connected
with the annual Haj Pilgrimage for the year. The District Judge issued
an injunction valid for two weeks against the Director preventing him
from acting contrary to the materials contained in documents issued by
Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne.
The Director is availed the opportunity to file objections and his
responses at the next date of hearings which was postponed for August
23.
Action was filed by Environment Deputy Minister A. R. M. Abdul Carder
seeking an injunction/restraining order preventing the Director of
Muslim Affairs from acting against the instructions of Prime Minister D.
M. Jayaratne.
The PM appointed Minister A. H. M. Fowzie and the Deputy Minister as
Co-Chairmen of Haj Committee-2012. Attorney’s-at-Law S. A.
ParathalingamPC and Nishanka Parathalingam appeared for the plaintiff. |
