CICRA teams win Global Cyberlympics Forensic Challenge
Among top 10 teams from Asia-Middle East to qualify for next round
Two teams hosted by CICRA Education representing Sri Lanka at the
Global Cyberlympics – Olympic styled international competition amongst
cyber security professionals – have won the Forensic Challenge held last
week.
Global CyberLympics Administration Team announced on Saturday that
the two teams – Team CICRA and Team CICRA Lions – have advanced to the
next round of competition which will be a Penetration Challenge.
“Almost all the members of the two teams are Certified Ethical
Hackers (C|EH) from the EC-Council, USA trained by CICRA Education; they
are sponsored by CICRA Education up to the World Finals on October 29 in
Miami, USA,” CICRA Director/CEO Boshan Dayaratne said.
Team CICRA is captained by Parakum Pathirana, Head of IT Security &
Compliance at Lanka ORIX Information Technology Services Ltd. Parakum
has a MSC in Internet Engineering from University of East London and
several professional qualifications including CISSP.
His other team members are: GnanasekaraiyerBalachandran (Lecturer at
APIIT and holds C|EH & C|HFI), SalindaLekamge (Sri Lanka Telecom) [MBA],
Dhanushka Fernando (Seylan Bank) [C|EH], ilshaan Perera (AHL Business
Solutions) [ C|EH] and LasanthaThenuwara (Nations Trust Bank) [C|EH]
Meanwhile, Team CICRA Lions is captained by KanagarajahKrishan, a
Chartered Accountant from Ernst & Young. Krishan holds a C|EH. His
fellow team members are: Sandamali Silva (SriLankan Airlines) [C|EH],
Aruna Krishantha (Sampath Bank) [C|EH], Heshan Perera (Zone24x7 Inc) [C|EH],
DhimalWickramarathne (Singapore Informatics) [C|EH], Suresh Rupasinghe
(Singapore Informatics)[C|EH].
Managers for Team CICRA and CICRA Lions respectively are CICRA
Director/CEO Boshan Dayaratne and Executive Director Vasana Wickremasena.
The two teams will first compete under the ‘Asia and Middle East’
region. As the competition progresses, teams will be eliminated until a
select few teams from each continent remain that will represent their
country and region respectively for the World Finals Competition.
Cyberlympics is an international cyber security competition with the
objective of unifying Global Cyber Defense through the Games organized
by the EC-Council Foundation, USA. The EC-Council Foundation is a
charitable and educational organization dedicated to educating and
training individuals in security skills established by the International
Association of Electronic Commerce Consultants (EC-Council).
The Cyberlympics is endorsed by the International Multilateral
Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT). IMPACT is the cyber security
executing arm of the United Nations’ specialized agency, the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU). ITU Secretary-General Dr
HamadounTouré is the patron of Global Cyberlympics, Mr. Dayaratne said.
Global CyberLympics aspires to create an opportunity for ethical
hacking to be accepted, practiced and demonstrated without any
discrimination, across all geographical boundaries – for the purpose of
understanding what it takes to protect and secure critical information
and assets.
One key initiative for Global CyberLympics is to foster an
environment that creates child online protection through education, he
said.
CICRA Education is an accredited training center of the EC-Council.
CICRA delivers number of EC-Council training programs on cyber security
in Sri Lanka. They include: Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH), Computer
Hacking Forensic Investigator (C|HFI), Certified Security Analyst (E|CAN)
leading to Licenced Penetration Tester (L|PT). |
