Six nabbed with illegally felled timber


A stock of illegally felled timber

The STF on Wednesday arrested six suspects and seized Rs 193,000 worth illegally felled timber including satinwood, palu and ebony logs in Mullaitivu, Killinochchi and Buttala.

A team of Mullaitivu STF officers took into custody four suspects while illegally felling timber in the Suwandipuram forest reserve in Pudukuduirippu and seized 16 satinwood and 14 palu logs.

The other two suspects were arrested at Kannagipuram in Kilinochchi with four satinwood logs and a tractor in which the suspects were transporting the illegally felled timber. The stock of ebony was seized in Okkampitiya by Buttala STF. The suspects and the timber have been handed over to police stations and forest department officials for further investigations.
