Mother arrested on torture charges

A 22-year-old woman was arrested by Wellawaya Police on Wednesday for the alleged torture of her four-year-old pre- school going son. The boy has been hospitalised at Wellawaya Hospital.

Acting on a tip-off received via 119 emergency service, Wellawaya Police found the woman had burnt the boy’s leg and put chilli powder in his eyes at their home in Kehaliya, Handapanagala. The woman was produced before the Wellawaya magistrate yesterday.
