Prison guards nabbed for alleged assault

Six prison guards of the Anuradhapura prison were arrested by Mahawa Police for allegedly assaulting a bus driver and a Police Constable on the Kurunegala main road in Dalandagama.

Police reported the prison guards had allegedly assaulted the driver for not stopping the bus for them, while they were waiting for a bus after attending a wedding reception.

The suspects had followed the bus in another vehicle and overtaken it and brought it to a halt.

When a Police Constable who was among the bus passengers intervened to diffuse the situation, he was also attacked by the suspects. Mahawa Police are investigating.
