UPFA committed to democratic campaign - Keheliya

The UPFA, as the ruling party, is fully committed to an independent and democratic election campaign in keeping with the newly gained freedom of the country, Mass Media and Information Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Minister Rambukwella

Addressing the Cabinet press briefing at the ministry auditorium, the minister said the UPFA’s election campaign is based on policy and development, and is devoid of racism.

The minister responding to a question of a journalist said the government has identified the issue of inciting communalism in the Eastern Province at election campaigns by certain political parties.

He said the government has requested from voters not to vote on the basis of ethnicity.

He said that Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Deputy Minister Faiszer Musthapha

at a public meeting held recently in the region have communicated this message emphatically. He said the public during the election would make a decision on those political parties driven by ethnically motivated policies.

Information Department Director General Prof Ariyaratne Athugala, Media Center for National Development Director Ariya Rubasinghe and Information Director Wasanthapriya Ramanayake also participated in the press conference.
