India hands over 11 Lankan fishermen

Officials of the Indian coastguard ship Rajshree handed over 11 Sri
Lankan fishermen and their two multi-day fishing trawlers to a Sri Lanka
coastguard patrol craft at Kankesanthurai on August 8.

The fishing trawlers Nathasha Duwa and Deshakthi Kaveesha left Chilaw
and Trincomalee for fishing in the Northern sea and were arrested by
Indian authorities for violating the Indian maritime law.
The fishermen and trawlers were brought to Kankesanthurai harbour
safely.
This is the 13th repatriation the Sri Lanka coastguard conducted with
the Indian coastguard under the guidance of the Sri Lanka Navy.
Meanwhile, a Thai female tourist dragged away while swimming was rescued
by Sri Lanka coastguard life savers at Mirissa beach on Wednesday.
Yokume was swimming with her husband when she was suddenly dragged away.
Rohana who was on duty rescued and brought her ashore safely. Yokume
is the 10th foreigner, coastguards have saved during recent times.
