Case challenging EP dissolution thrown out
The Court of Appeal yesterday squashed a petition filed against the
early dissolution of the Eastern Province without taking it up for
hearing.
The petitioner, former member of the Eastern Provincial Council,
Rasaiya Thurairathnam sought an interim order preventing the Elections
Commissioner from holding election in the province too. The case was
taken up before a Court of Appeal Bench comprising Justices Sisira de
Abrew, A W A Salam and Anil Goonaratne yesterday.
Considering the submissions made by the respondents including former
Chief Minister of Eastern Province Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, court
squashed the petition. Court also refused to issue notice on the
respondents.
