Sri Lanka can take a leaf from Poland which opened its economy 14
years after Sri Lanka opened its economy.

Poland Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jerzy Pomianowski said that
one of the key reasons for the Poland economy to surge ahead is the
shift of their exports from Russia to Germany and Europe. “One other
reason is the elimination of corruption,” he said.
He said that trade between Sri Lanka and Poland is currently low and
it has great scope to expand. He said Poland investors are keen on
tourism and infrastructure related investment. “There is also
opportunity for Polish businessmen who are already investing in India to
manufacture more in Sri Lanka so that the items could be exported to
India exploiting the FTA.
He said with more promotions, tourist arrivals too could be
increased.
Exports from Sri Lanka to Poland topped US 39 million dollars and
imports were around 11.8 million. The main exports are tea, apparel and
rubber based products while imports are mainly industrial goods. |
