Grenade found in tank bed

A hand grenade of a foreign make found on the bed of the Mahamankadawala wewa by a group of women who ventured into the wewa for a bath was retrieved and defused by an airman who accidentally visited the spot on Tuesday evening.

However, residents panicked on hearing the explosion and several of them had alerted the Police on the hotline mistaking it for a bomb attack. Kalawewa Police who rushed to the scene later found it was a false alarm.
