False documents to obtain visa: woman enlarged on bail

A woman taken into custody for allegedly submitting false documents
to obtain a US visa was produced before Colombo chief magistrate Rashmi
Singappuli yesterday.
The magistrate ordered the suspect, a mother of two, to be enlarged
on a Rs one million personal bail with four government servants as
sureties.
The complainant is US embassy consulate investigations officer
Sanjeewa Gamanpilla. The suspect told court, when she went to a leading
international school accompanied by her husband and child, several
persons in a vehicle had arrived and identifying themselves as the CID,
had allegedly asked her to accompany them to the CID.
She said her husband got away and she was kept in custody until
enlarged on bail. The CID informed that two males had named her as their
wife, when they applied for passports.
She lived in a palatial house with CCTV cameras in Dehiwala.
The CID also said her eldest child has several names and her bank
accounts were under scrutiny. Attorney at law Sajitha Jayawardana
appearing for the suspect submitted that an affidavit could be submitted
regarding the child’s name.
The case will be taken up on September 14. |
