A woman taken into custody for allegedly submitting false documents to obtain a US visa was produced before Colombo chief magistrate Rashmi Singappuli yesterday.

The magistrate ordered the suspect, a mother of two, to be enlarged on a Rs one million personal bail with four government servants as sureties.

The complainant is US embassy consulate investigations officer Sanjeewa Gamanpilla. The suspect told court, when she went to a leading international school accompanied by her husband and child, several persons in a vehicle had arrived and identifying themselves as the CID, had allegedly asked her to accompany them to the CID.

She said her husband got away and she was kept in custody until enlarged on bail. The CID informed that two males had named her as their wife, when they applied for passports.

She lived in a palatial house with CCTV cameras in Dehiwala.

The CID also said her eldest child has several names and her bank accounts were under scrutiny. Attorney at law Sajitha Jayawardana appearing for the suspect submitted that an affidavit could be submitted regarding the child’s name.

The case will be taken up on September 14.
