Kalutara PS chairman, office assistant arrested for bribery

The Bribery or Corruption Commission yesterday arrested Kalutara
Pradeshiya Sabha chairman and an office assistant when they were
accepting a bribe of Rs. 3 million from a businessman for granting
permission to develop an illegal land at Nagoda in Kalutara.
The suspects were arrested at the PS chairman’s office on a complaint
made by a businessman in Kalutara.
The raid was carried out by the Director of Bribery or Corruption
Luxshmi Jayawickrama under the directive of the chairman of the
Commission, former Supreme Court Judge Jagath Balapatabendi.
The bribe had been accepted by the suspect for the development and
construction of an entry road to a property owned by the businessman in
Delgahawatta, Hataraman Handiya, Nagoda in Kalutara. The suspects were
to be produced before the Colombo Chief magistrate’s Court. |
