PC elections:

18 independent groups, one party, place deposits

The Elections Secretariat yesterday said 18 independent groups and one party have made deposits for the upcoming elections for the three Provincial Councils.

Elections Secretariat sources said the highest number of deposits were by independent parties in the Eastern Province.

Of them, six independent groups from the Ampara district have placed deposits while five and four from Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts have placed deposits.

Two from Anuradhapura district and one independent group from Polonnaruwa district placed deposits.

The United Socialist Front made a deposit for the Trincomalee district.

The deadline for deposits ends at noon on July 18.
