Batti development gets over Rs 54,837 m

The government allocated over Rs 54,837 million for development
activities in the Batticaloa district from 2008 to 2012, Deputy
Ministers V Muralitharan and MLAM Hizbullah said.
The deputy ministers were participating in a media seminar on ‘The
role of provincial journalists for district development’.
“Rs 4,679 million has been allocated for agriculture while Rs 266
million for industries, tourism and trade. The allocation for human
settlement is Rs 14,391 million which has been allocated for resettling
displaced persons and for infrastructure development activities of
resettled people.
The allocation for economic infrastructure development is Rs 128
million and for transport Rs 32,045 million. Allocation for social
infrastructure is Rs 2,362 million while Rs 353 million was allocated on
strengthening of administration in the district. Besides, Rs 611 million
has been allocated for livelihood activities,” the Deputy Ministers
added.
The total allocation of Rs 54,837 million is being utilized for
infrastructure development in the district, including road development,
electrification projects, agrarian services, improving health facilities
and communication infrastructure activities.
In addition funds are allocated for housing programmes, irrigation,
fishing education, health, co-operative, transport, postal and other
activities. “People in the Batticaloa district are immensely benefited
by these projects. All ongoing projects will be completed by the end of
the year ,” the Deputy Ministers noted. |
