The Public Utilities Commission, Sri Lanka (PUCSL) mandated the need
to standardize the service requirements of the Ceylon Electricity Board
(CEB) and Lanka Electricity Company (LECO).
The CEB and LECO are mandated through licences, to prepare a Supply
Service Code.
The PUCSL envisages to facilitate information requirements of
electricity consumers through this exercise.
PUCSL Director General Damith Kumarasinghe said, the proposed supply
service code will include nine main areas such as how to contact the
service provider, metering and billing information, procedures in
relation to access consumer premises, payments against statements of
accounts, consumers in default, connections planned and unplanned, power
interruptions, consumer complaints and metre reading issues. In
addition, information on theft, pilferage, damages and meter
interferences, thrifty and efficient usage of power and electricity will
be included in the Supply Service Code.
“We expect to approve the code within this year to be implemented.
Once implemented the Supply Service Code will be made available to all
consumers on the website of PUCSL, CEB and LECO.
“The code will standardize the services of CEB and LECO and provide
all necessary information to consumers” Kumarasisnghe told the Daily
