Economic summit begins today
The 13th Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2012 will be
held from today to the 13th of July, 2012 at the Cinnamon Grand
Colombo. Organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the premier
business Chamber in the country, the event will bring together a
large number of business leaders, government officials, ambassadors
and policy makers on to one platform to discuss issues related to
Sri Lanka's economy.

Tea production at Waltrim up 66% in 2012
The annual tea production at Waltrim Estate, a
flagship estate owned by listed RPC Watawala Plantations, has shot
up by 66 percent to one million kilos of made tea per year after the
construction of the new state-of-the-art factory two years ago,
while the energy costs have slumped significantly and productivity
improved, company officials said.

MASkargo commences freighter flight to Colombo
MASkargo marked another historical milestone by
launching its first A330-200 freighter flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka,
in a development that augurs well for the country's economy. The
newly acquired A330-200 freighter flew into Bandaranaike
International Airport on 6th July 2012 and is scheduled to fly in
from Kuala Lumpur every Friday and back the following day. The
flight routing for this weekly flight will be from Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
– Chennai (MAA) – Colombo (CMB) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL).

MPI gains
ASI lost 3.58 (0.07%) points to close at
4,925.06, MPI gained 0.98(0.02%) points to close at 4,360.66 and the
S&P index lost 0.05 points to close at 2,796.46 points. Turnover for
today was Rs. 125 million.
