Two sluice gates opened

Two sluice gates of the Canyon reservoir and the Lakshapana reservoir have been opened due to incessant rains experienced in the area.

The Maskeliya Oya and the Kehelgamu Oya along the two reservoirs join the Kelani Ganga. Disaster Management centre Nuwaraeliya District coordinator Eranda Hemawardana said that two inches of Canyon and Lakshapana sluice gates were opened yesterday which increases the water level from Canyon to downstream until the Polpitiya reservoir. He said the water level in the Kalni River could increase due to the spill from Lakshapnana and requested the people who occupy the banks of the Kelani Ganga to be cautious.
