Thonda alleys milk producers' fears

Livestock and Rural Community Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman yesterday denied rumours that Milco (Pvt) Ltd was planning to stop purchasing milk from milk producers within the next few days and said Milco will continue to purchase fresh milk from producers delivered through their farmer societies.

Issuing a release, the minister said:" There have been rumours that Milco (Pvt) Ltd is planning to stop purchasing milk from all milk producers within the next few days. "We would like to inform the milk producers Milco (Pvt) Ltd will continue to purchase fresh milk delivered through their farmer societies.

"It has been brought to our notice that some milk companies have refused to purchase the fresh milk collected by their private collectors. "Milco will continue to purchase the milk delivered through their farmer societies. There are over 2,000 farmer societies all over the country with 77 milk chilling centres to procure the milk."
