CBB sixes today

The Council for Business with Britain (CBB) Sixes will take place today at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), Colombo 7. The CBB Sixes, an annual event in the corporate calendar is a tournament comprising three of the most widely played sports - cricket, badminton and netball, with the participation of many leading companies in Sri Lanka.

This will be an action packed day for all CBB members with many sporting activities.

The event, whose main aim is to support the English Language Teacher Training Project (CBB-ELT project), a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the CBB, commenced in 2005 and has benefited over 900 teachers as at date.

This year's event will feature 50 cricket, 10 badminton and 8 netball teams from multinational and local corporates who are all members of the CBB.

Nick Nicolaou, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives and Chairman of the Council for Business with Britain, said, "We are happy to host yet another exciting sports day for our members.

This event promises to showcase the sporting ability of individuals from many prestigious organisations and to foster networking opportunities, amongst all participants. This event has expanded over the years, with the inclusion of popular sports such as cricket, netball and badminton, which have become an integral part of this tournament. We look forward to another successful event that will help contribute to sustaining our CSR efforts in English language education for the betterment of society."

The CBB Sixes sponsored by HSBC for the seventh year, will be co-sponsored by Aviva NDB Insurance PLC, Courtaulds Clothing Lanka Pvt Ltd, De La Rue Lanka Currency and Security Print (Private) Ltd, Abans (Pvt) Ltd, Hayleys PLC, Mackwoods (Pvt) Ltd, and Mackinnons Travels (Pvt) Ltd.

The CBB was formed in 2000 and exists to promote two-way trade between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom and to maintain and foster a harmonious business relationship between the two countries.

The CBB has a membership of approximately 150 companies and is headed by a multinational committee with the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka as its patron.

The CBB is affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
