Date of application for postal voting extended
The period for receipt of applications for postal voting scheduled to
end tomorrow has been extended until July 19, the Elections Secretariat
said in a release yesterday.
The release said public servants in the administrative districts in
the area of authority of the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa
Provincial Councils who are likely to be deployed for election duty and
personnel in the essential services and the three Armed services and the
Police are entitled to apply to vote by post.
It added: “ It is not possible to provide facilities to vote by post
to state officers registered as electors in the Eastern, North Central
and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council areas but are now serving in other
provinces.
“This category of officers can apply for leave to vote in person at
the polling station under Section 123 of the Provincial Council Act No 2
of 1988. These officers should not apply to vote by post.
“It is also notified for the information of the certifying officer to
personally examine applications made by his officers and certify the
applications and immediately post the certified applications before July
19 to the returning officer of the district where the voter is
registered. This date will not be extended any further. Any application
received after this date and incomplete applications will be rejected.” |
