The human resources industry in Sri Lanka has been given the opportunity to break out of conventions with the ‘People Drive Business; International HR Conference (IHRC) and HR Service Providers Exhibition 2012’ that was held at Waters Edge, Battaramulla on the 26th and 27th of June. The Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) have created this annual event as means to enhance the Sri Lanka HR sector and to advance the facilities that are currently in use. Human Resource management is vital to an organisation and with today’s context differing to the past, it is important that businesses focus on its core, saving time to develop themselves.

“This not only attracts the top exhibitors but also a large number of delegates and corporate entities in order to find out the latest technologies and tools available in the HR arena,” said Dhammika Fernando, Vice President of IPM and Chairman of IHRC.

The evolving new HR agenda has provided changes to an economic environment and a vast amount of prospects that can be accredited to a company’s value. “This recognition is what creates strategy and this enables culture which is what is needed in order to be successful,” said Adil Malia, Group President of Essar Human Resources. The interlinked processes explain how the ‘real world’ works and this in turn allows for an analysis of one’s group to occur.

This is what is needed for HR professionals if they want to keep their company growing at a long term basis.

IPM Sri Lanka was founded in 1959 with the aim of developing people whom chose the personnel management field. They became incorporated by an act passed in parliament in 1976.

This institute is now one of the most recognised HR authorities in Sri Lanka and has believed to have contributed greatly to the development of this sector in the nation. IPM hope to continue to open pathways in the HR profession and want to be the partner in human capital development whilst constantly improving their methods and practices.
